Hi Paul,
Wow , I didn't think I would ruffle any feathers. Turbo's are not in the campain 81 realm , only non-turbo's and only certain VIN numbers.
The S80 is a completly different animal. All the modules on the car talk to each other via two wires (yes, just two wires) . The modules take what they need from the info and pass it on. I think the after market tuners are going to have a tough time with this one. Because even if a tuner makes a performance program to down load for the fuel module , if any other module goes bad the performance
program could be lost when the new programing is down loaded from sweden.
The modules have only very basic programing in them. All programing comes from sweden, via modem. The VIN number of the car is used to get all programing. Even the radios will not work without the download from sweden.
So I have been told. Volvo has delevoped a completly new machine code for all
this called Volcano, and has offered to share it with all the other car manufacturers. Volvo isn't thre only manufacturer to go this route. BMW, Ford,
Jaguar, Lincoln, Cadillac, just to name a few, have multiplexed systems in cars
currently. The manufacturers have found that computing power gives them the necessary handle on the growing emissions problem, as well as , the new government regs. on the OBDII issue.
