Re: 1999 S70, and Q: about Oversea Delivery[S70/99] posted by Emmerson Bowes on

I too have used overseas delivery through a dealer Princeton Volvo who made the handled it very efficiently. I picked up the S70 GLT at Goteburg. Everything went smoothly, the service at the Tourist and Diplomt Service office was out of this world. I recomend to anyone who wishes to combine it with a European trip, you would hardly get an equivalent rental car for the price of the insurance. The receptionist provided a list of hotels for my next stop and even booked the room for me. We had the same deal as Hannu.

Sweden is a wonderful country to drive in, excellent roads and few cars on the road because of the low population density, even the cities were a pleasure to drive in. Goteburg, and presumably Stockholm, had a fair amount of traffic, especially at rush hour.

We toured Sweden for few days and took the ferry to Frederikshaven, Denmark then later to UK from Esbjorg. I dropped off the car in London on the 15th July and I have just been informed it will arrive in Newark NJ on the 12th August having come by way of Bremerhaven.

One word of caution. Your experience will depend on you filling out the forms correctly that are required by Swedish authorities and responding to Volvo Overseas in a timely fashion and delivering teh correct documents to teh shipper. I had no problem, but neither Volvo nor the shipping agent has any latitude as to how government regulations are applied.

If you do travel by ferry, be sure to get a landing card for non-EEC citizens. Customs and immigration are relaxed because of the common market but only for citizens of it. I went into Denmark without seeing customs or immigration, but the ferry people did check papers before boarding. I then arrived in the UK without a landing card but the immigration officer was very accommodating.

Good luck.
