244 turbo difficult to start[240-260/83] posted by Henrik Mortensen on

I am the happy owner of a 83 244 turbo intercooler b21eti,but the damn car will not start.i have driven the car for about a month and there was nothing wrong, everything was as new.Now i have to run the starter for about 1,5 minute and then it will only run on one cylinder but the rest will follow within 25 seconds and then it runs perfectly ,no uneven idle, good response to gas.I have changed spark plugs, rotor ,cap, and wires - no change. The engine is in good condition, fine compression,no oil use,no water use.In fact i have had it on a dyno with this problem to see if it had any influence on the engines performance and this is the cool fact:

164,5hp on the wheels at 5004rpm
19,4 hp lost in transmission at 5004 rpm
peak torque 253,8 Nm at 3701 rpm

The engine is completely stock exept for the intercooler(Volvo kit)

If you have any hints to what could be the problem,i would be very glad.
Thanks in advance.
Henrik

On a turbo it is important to have the right sparkwires because of the high temperature from the turbo. I had a similar problem, with the engine not running on all cylinders when starting the engine and running it cold.
I had recently bougth som cheap wires, but they obviously couldnīt withstand the heat, so I changed to "Double silicone high temperature" wires. The price is around 10$ in Denmark for each. You could also buy the original "goldwires" from Volvo, which cost the double amount.
Where in Denmark do you live, perhaps a visit could be arranged. I live in Frederikssund.
