Cruise Control, 82 242 Dl[240-260/82] posted by Nathan Rivers on

I have an 82 242 Dl with an M46 transmission on which the cruise control does not work. There is no responce to hitting the cruise button, turning the switch on and off or anything. Should there be a click coming from the Cruise control ECU? I wiggled the wires at the control to no avail. What fuse # is this system typically on? It does not feel like the system is being energized so I dont think it is a mechanical problem, I suspect that black box. Either that or wiring. Could somebody give me some things that I could do to test it. I have a test light, not a voltometer so dont get into complicated electrical test. Could the problem be the hoses in the engine compartment ascociated with the cruise control? If this was the case, wouldent the ecu energize anyway? I love my car but the cruise would be cool to have for longer trips.

Had same problem with 85 DL, lets assume same system and set up. System is vacume controled and hose behind center counsel had become disconnected due to dry rot. Ran new vacume line and have been enjoying my cruise contol. Worth a try good luck Terry
