1989 740 GLE 16 VALVE 2.3 LITER (B234F) MILAGE 89,000 MAINTAIN PER THE VOLVO SCHEDULE.
PER VOLVO DEALER: THE BALANCE SHAFT BROKE RELEASING THE TIMING CHAIN. GIVEN TWO OPTIONS:1) REPLACE HEADS BUT NUMBER 2 CYLINDER COULD BE DAMAGED.
2) REPLACE ENGINE WITH A REBUILD ENGINE.
SPOKE WITH AFTER MARKET ENGINE REBUILDER. ON INSPECTING THE RETURNED 16 VALVE CORES, THEY HAVE FOUND THE MAJORITY OF FAILURES ARE DUE TO BROKEN BALANCE SHAFT.
HAS VOLVO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM AND IS THERE A HIDDEN WARRENTY FOR OWNERS WITH THIS PROBLEM?
