I've had a cracked distributor cap and bad ignition wires cause this kind of problem. A cracked cap is often hard to spot. Ignition wires should be inspected for loose connections, corrosion, arcing and their nominal resistance checked. You might be able to spot arcing plug/coil wires visually in the dark.

If any of that ignition stuff looks like original equipment then perhaps it would be simplest to just replace it as part of routine maintenance. Is that the best Volvo mechanic you could afford in Estonia?
