Original Radio - where to repair?[740-760/1986] posted by Bill Meacham on

Anyone know a good reputable place to have an original Volvo radio repaired? My model radio is the TD-3141 (dated 1984 although my car is an 86). Since the installation instructions were printed in Japan, I figured the radio is of Japanese manufacture and sold as OEM to Volvo (correct my if I am wrong).
Although I have been tempted to buy a new radio w/CD player, I would like to keep the original.
Thanks,
Bill

Bill, I had the radio in my '87 740 repaired locally here in
Phoenix at a shop called Jeff's Professional Audio Repair.
They did an excellent job for a very reasonable price. The stereo in
my '87 was made by Alpine and, according to Jeff, well worth the $70 to fix.
All of the display lights were out, and there was slack and static in the
volume control knob. Now all fixed, plus we added in-trunk CD changer - works
great. I'm also told that Volvo's (surprise, surprise) had poor speaker
wires which tended to erode at the door hinges and needed replacement. I bought
replacement wires, but have not installed yet.
Let me know if you want the phone # and address of this shop - you might could
mail your radio if you can't find anything closer.

Bill,
I heard from someone (offline) that Volvo had a program as to where one could trade in broken radios and recieve "remanufactured" replacements for very reasonable sounding prices.. even for us 240 people and our large, huge, easily-breaking units.
Check with your local dealer, and let us know what becomes of it..
