Alpine CD Changer for 1991 740T - looking to purchase used[ALL/1998] posted by John Brabant on

So, based on brickboard advice, I called an Alpine dealer to find out about what it would cost to buy one of those trunk mount Alpine changers to fit my 1991 740 turbo. Well the dealer said he doesn't list that far back and I am out of luck. What's with these things that makes them special to a particular model year? I also called Nis Sefelt out of Houston to get the Volvo price. OUCH! Well out of my reach. Anyone have a used one for sale????

How about one for a 1990 740T or 1987 760T?

John/ JB,
if you cannot find a used Alpine older type CD (6 disk) unit the best other route to go is to purchase a new radio cassette and CD unit. I purchased a new Sony system and plan to yank the Volvo/Alpine radio cassette unit from my 84'
760 GLE. It seems that volvo didn't make a CD plug in for the unit. The other way to go is to feed it in to the FM signal of your Volvo/Alpine unit. I understand that it's possible to use the newer Alpine 6 disk unit! But, you must
use a adaptor cable to do this. Ask Stoney he once posted a web site or was it a
contact phone number of a place that made these adaptor cables or sells them.

Check out http://www.stinger-aamp.com
They make interface adapters for newer Volvo radios matched to Alpine CD changer. Send them email to check if they have the adapters for your radio. Very helpful guys, especiall Gordie Kay.

if you can't get interface adaptor elsewhere try ipd or any reputable car
stereo place, I had one installed in may dads 940 for about 100$ (a little
high, but that was for someone good and with the interface).
as per the used changer, get a new one for about $300 (volvo wants over 5-600 forone
from what i remember) but it is the same as the alpine 601 or 601s(newer model)
(alpine makes many stock radios for volvo) which can be mail ordered from some electronics shops in the back of photo or car
mags.
also beaware that some volvo's may not require the interface adaptor, ipd helped me clear that up.
