86 740 Turbo Sedan horsepower increase[ALL/1998] posted by Bob Garmirian on

I am interested in increasing output of turbo motor. At one point I used IPD's inexspensive vacum hosae method of incresing boost and built a 2 1/2 inch cat back exhaust with a flowmaster muffler. Flowmaster mufflers rusted quickly. Fuel pump would cut off fuel at about 12 lbs boost. Do any of you out there have suggestions for this motor? Cost is an issue but I am interested in all reasonable suggestions. Have made improvements in brakes with drilled rotars,IPD brakes hoses, and kevlar pads. Thank you for your help.

You're limited on this engine by the front rod/main and the fuel injector delivery...I understand 220 hp is about all the injectors will tolerate. However, they will flow more than enough fuel to blow a rod through the block (ask me how I know) at 2000-3500 rpm if you boost the engine enough.
And therein lies the answer to horsepower on this engine...just bleed off the signal pressure to the wastegate until you get as much horsepower as you or your wallet can stand (engine grenades cost money :=>) Turbo City sells a nice pressure regulator that you can plumb into the line with a T...twist the regulator and more air is bled to atmosphere...delays the point at which the wastegate closes and thus makes more horsepressure.
