Folks,

Where is the Fuel Injection system temp sensor on a 1981 B28F?

I mean the one for the idle system. Volvo part # 1306024

1981 B28F experts!! Here's some more info:

The Constant Idle system sensor, not the "thermo time switch". The "thermo time switch" is located on the front end of the engine, on the water pump housing, under the thermostat. Most (if not all books), including the Volvo service manuals point at the "thermo time switch" and call it the "temp sensor"....I have yet to see a precise location of the idle temp sensor and how to R&R it.

Thank you!!

You should find the temp. sensor on the driver's cylinder head at rear in
the 'v'. It is a two wire sensor not to be confused with the single wire
sensor you will find on the water manifold ('Y' pipe) under the fuel dist.
housing that is for the gauge.

Thank you sir.

Indeed I located the sensor earlier this afternoon in the exact location you describe. I had to stick my now dirty head down there with my light to get a view of it. I don't think I'll be able to swap in a new one without removing the intake manifold!

Strange thing is right next to it is yet another sensor that has a single wire connector, but nothing hooked up to it! My water temp gauge works fine...the single wire for the gauge sensor is on the back of the drivers side head.

That sensor would be a warm up sensor for the CI fuel injection. There
should be a gray (I remember it being gray, I can't be sure without a
wiring diagram) wire plugged on it. It wires to the Lambda control unit and
causes the frequency valve to stay at a fixed signal that provides slight
enrichment (and causes the ECU to ignore the O2 sensor) until coolant
reaches 125 F. You might be able to find that wire under the intake while
you're in there.

Volvo related. B28F detractors stop reading now.

Figured out all the what/wheres of 1981 B28F temp. sensors!!! Thanks to the
Volvo numbered exploded views....these are the best.....thanks really to
Eddy at NW Volvo...Eddy is kinda strange...happy all the time (I think he
drives a Nissan....but I could be wrong...). Eddy copies the exploded views
from the micro fiche. Then he tells me the part numbers associated with the
bubble numbers I'm interested in.

The magic black box is the "warm start impulse relay". 5 points to Mr. John
Sullivan for the only correct answer, or I should say the only answer.

Everyone did miserably on the "extra" sensor next to the CIS temp sensor
question. The only correct answer was Mr. Crombie on the Brickboard. This
sensor (which was not connected) is the Lamda Sond temp sensor.

So the 1981 B28F has four temp. sensors. Gage, CIdleS, Lamda Sond engine
temp and FI thermo time switch and its associated warm start impulse
relay.

Anyhow I temporarily wired the disconnected connector (which hardly reachs)
the lamda sond engine water temp sensor and WOW this baby
scoots....Comments please. I don't understand the circuit...the engine
warms up so the........

Next subject: Installed a used bulb failure sensor relay from a
1984....yeah baby works great!!!!
