Add Alarm To 92' 940.[ALL/1998] posted by Henry T. Mui. on

I added/ upgraded an aftermarket alarm system to my 92' 940. The system that it's replacing in the 940 was a Code Alarm 707 plus 4.0 system. The new system is a Code Alarm pro series 1000 with auto door lock opener. I question is I noticed that on my 940 I cannot push the door lock (pin) knob when the driver's side door is opened. Is it possible to defeat this function and how. The reason
for this is that Volvo made this as a safty feature in order for you not to lock your keys in the car. The auto door locks only open the locks but, cannot close the door locks. I'm guessing the guy who installed it peogramed it like that or
he knew of this volvo safty feature and decided you could lock the door with
the key! By the way I hate the Code Alarm system but, I gave the 940 as a present to my brother to take care of. I liked the Viper system better!

The open door lock preventer should be able to be easily defeated. I did the same to my 740 and I don't imagine the linkage mechanisms are that far different on a 940.
As I recall it involved bending a small tab so that the rod from the knob would have nothing to strike against when the door catch was in the open position. If you stare at the linkage long enough while you try to lock the door with the catch in the open and closed position you should be able to see what's needed.
This was my first 740 self-improvement project (wowee) and I remember showing off my genius to a group of co-workers ogling my new brick. Guess what, I locked the keys in the car with the engine running -how embarassing! Project #2 was thus hiding a spare key.
Speaking of door locks, if I see one more post on ALT.AUTOS.VOLVO from a new owner wondering why their back doors won't open when you and I both know they haven't discovered the little child lock levers, I'm going to split a gut laughing. A bit unkind, perhaps, but until they RTFM or join the BrickBoard I'll want to keep that tidbit as insider knowledge.
