'72 144 or 144 DL?[ALL/1998] posted by Davy Borghys on

Hello,

I recently (08/31) bought a '72 144 with just under 100 000 miles on the odo (actually 157 271 km).

The original owner died, so I really didn't receive that much info on the car itself, only on the model. It was sold to me as an 144 base model, but there are some details that lead me to believe that it may be a DL. The details follow.
BTW it's not that I care much about the distinction, it's just that I want to make sure what I have is what I know I have.

The original owner's manual supplied is that of the 142/144DL-models and does only speak of the main differences between the base model.
The grille is that of the base model, but it doesn't really seem to fit 100% and also the bumper shows sings of a medium collision, so it may be the headlights and grille were replaced.
I have the fake leather with white (well, once white) cloth interior - although I realize the base model also came with this combination in some versions.
The manual says the distinction in base model and DL/GL-models was also in the wheel size, being 4,5 (base) and 5 (DL/GL).
etc. etc.

Can anyone tell me in full the differences between the base model and the DL model (for '72) for the 144?
Please reply to my email address. Thanks!

If needed, I can also supply the serial number.

Sincerely,

Davy Borghys
