Hall's sensor on 740 GLT[ALL/1998] posted by Ivan K. on

Has anyone replaced Hall's sensor on 740 GLT with B230 engine? Most places insist on selling me the entire distributor.
One can purchase this sensor at any Volvo parts store.
Why is replacing it such a big deal ???

The distributor housing is thin where the rivets are located that hold the switch. The pins on the replacement hall switch have to be expanded (bradded)
and supporting the distributor is very difficult without slipping and breaking the distributor housing. I tried to do it and had full knowledge of the
weakness of the housing (the housing is drilled so that the bradded pins will
be countersunk when installed so that bottom of dist. can fit flat against
cyl. head) and still slipped and broke it.
