How many bricks does it take to make a wall ?

My brother-in-law just dropped the latest addition to the household fleet. This makes four, 75 164E's in the drive way , one in the garage as an organ donor.

So now it's time to redeal the deck. The latest loks nice, but the motor is toast, # 1 cyl. sounds like the connecting rod is about tto leave its happy home and go and live, somewhere else.

I ove the old bricks, , I put 500000 miles on a 71 164 I finally just got tired loking at it, I did work on it , timing gears, oil pump, alternators, etc. etc. but anything you driive that much, is going to have parts wear.

I feel badly about the new stuff suffering from similar problems, as the rerst of the world, like Sears, and General Motors, ,

There is enough room under the hood for almost any kind of nightmare you would care to imagine . But Why , If you want a car that runs like a GTO then
for my money I will build a Dodge Interceptor, or a 440 six pack,or may-be just a 440/4000 with a Dual feed, 1175 cfm, holley , But I like my old brivcks ,got tired of really insane insurance and having black an whites follow me . , when the CHP wasn't busy.

Mine never overheat, and get an oil change about twice a year, I use Valvoline 20w/50 and phram ph8A filters , had a friend heat the pipes, so i can get the bigger filter in.

Maybe someday I'll grow up ; get a real job, and be able to afford to change decades, but till then, i hang on to my brickyard.

Paul...You seem to have something of a handle on 164 cars and I was wondering if you have any unusual leads on service parts and internet companionship devoted to 164 folk. I was a high-end euro car technician from about 1965 until 1990 when I found that I couldn't stomach the electronic wonders anymore and moved back up to the mountains to build clocks, so I am out of the loop for these cars. I bought a nearly perfect '71 164 for my daughter and she immediately trashed the right front fender and surrounding real estate. I called Voluparts in Atlanta and they have what I need, but I thought that you might have some other wisdom to impart. As for the big motors...I have stuck a few 350's in both XJ6s and an XJS, and found that the best use for the removed 12 cylinder lump was as a power plant driving an 8 foot fixed pitch propeller in a 14 foot square nosed air boat. I had the lawn chair all bungie corded down on top of the lump when Kathleen put her foot down. Not really, but I have considered it a time or two. Please let me know if you can help this old Clydesdale. Jack
