Windscreen fogs badly on 1980 GL[ALL/1998] posted by Christopher Ives on

My 1980GL fogs up badly when the demister/heater is turned on during wet weather. Is there some vent or drain which could be plugged up to cause this? Summer or fall driving can be temporarily hazardous (over a minute or two) until the otherwise excellent heater/demister cranks up. Thanks for your help, Christopher Ives. PS I will be in Goteborg, Sweden, from 27 September-3 October - are there any special places or people to see or contact? I'm a B18-B20 nut.

Chris,
my 84' 240 GL does the same thing. You can try that window de-fogger solution
from any motor parts store. I do not know if this stuff works or not because I've not tried this stuff. Or you could just start the car turn on the de-fogger and let it run and warn up a while before your get into the car to drive.
If you are planning to go to Goteborg, Sweden maybe you can E-mail Thaddy in Sweden to see what he reccomends as sites to visit. I hope it's of some help!
Drive long.... Drive safe.
Drive Volvo!
P.S. If you cannot locate Thaddy's e-mail address, plese E-mail me and I'll see if I can find it for you!

I had this problem once, but it was because I had the recirculate button depressed. When I took it off of recirculate, it worked fine.
Also if the mist on the windshield feels oily or you can smell coolant, then it is a good chance your heater core is shot.
Good luck.
