Should I buy a '90 760 with 157K miles ?[ALL/1998] posted by AJ on

I am looking at a 1990 760 Sedan. It has 157,000 miles on the odometer. I am just wondering how long the average Volvo, or in this case, if anyone knows about this particular model, will last ? Does it keep running until well into the 200s range or does it fizzle out at about 200k miles ?
I do not know much about the model. What are well known problems with this model and with Volvos in general..?
There are so many questions that I have... I think I can get pretty good feedback from you guys here in this message group...
I will appreciate all responses,
thanx in advance

AJ,
I put out a similar request once to a Porsche club group and got snubbed. So in an effort to break the ice for you and show that Volvo owners arn't like that, I'll offer my response.
The 760 has lots of life left if the previous owner maintained it well. Knowint this before you buy is essential. Volvos are built to last but suceptible to abuse just like any other car.
If the maintenance records are in order don't let the miles scare you.
I'm not familiar with the 1990 model year so someone else out there will have to give you specifics.
I can tell that my '87 740T (which is similar) has 101K, runs like new and when I clean it up - looks like new. And yes it's my daily driver and I drive it in the winter.
The 7 series is a nice model. Good luck.

Short answer is probably not...but for $500 or less it should be a pretty good parts car.
This thing is a financial disaster looking for a place to happen.
It's got IRS...right there you're looking at $700 for new Nivomats...and only Nivomats will fit right now cuz no one is making a replacement...no Konis, no Bilsteins, no nottin.
I do like the 760 ride and itza nice car...but with 157k it's gotta be flawless or low priced...see above.
Unless you know the guy who owned it and how it was driven...caveat emptor.
