Shoulder belts for P1800[ALL/1998] posted by Jon Mauney on

I recently bought a 1966 1800S. The previous owner
had done engine and body work, so it drives well and
looks good from the outside, but the interior is
in need of work.
If I'm going to drive it, and I intend to, I need
good safety belts. Right now, there are non-original
lap belts. I want at least a 3-point system. I don't
mind if it lacks an inertial reel; I don't even mind
having to buckle the lap and shoulder separately, if
I have to.

Did the 1966 offer shoulder belts, either standard or optional?
Since there is not much trim on the inside of the car,
I can see a nice round hole in the metal near the back
of the little side window. Is that related to a belt mount?
What is my best bet for buying belts, and having them
installed?

Jon,
Indeed, that hole you mention is to anchor the shoulder part of the seat belt.
Feel around the inside near the seat ajuster. There should be a bolt,or a hole
there too. On the trans tunnel between the two front seats there might be a hole
or a bolt. Whatever, this is where a iron eye loop is bolted, it's what the belt, belts to. Also, there is this little clip mounted on the piller between the windows. That is where the seat belt hangs.(no auto retract) This is the set up
on my 1967 p1800. I know in later years things did change in the seat belt dept.
As for finding the goods, try Don Thibault. 372 rt 6a East Sandwich MA 02537.
