Transmission of 1993 Volvo 854[ALL/1998] posted by C. P. Singh on

Hi,
My 1993 Volvo 854 GLT has 54k miles. I hit curb while parking. The lower spalce was broken from right side. The splach shield near front right screw was broken. I got it fixed with new screw. Right after repair, car was hesitating to move and after driving 2 miles or so red arrow light (winter light) and economy light both started blinking. Car does not move. I thought it is due to accident. But Volvo dealer told me in the begining it is electical signal problem. Computer also was showing problem in sensor. Now they say it is transmission problem. They say transmission is slipping. Manual of 854 does recommend to change transmission fluid. All the fluid level was OK. All the required serviceing on this car was done by Volvo dealer. Now I have many question:
(1) Can minor collision near right side of splash shild cause transmission displaced?
(2) If not, Is transmission went wrong due to the low viscosity of transmission fluid? Being engineer and scientist, I strongly feel that transmission fluid of all the cars should be changed after 40k miles.
(3) Is Volvo responsible for this? ( because it is not recommending to change transmission fluid) The cost of fixing this car is $2300 ($1500 for rebuilt transmission + $ 700 for 12 hours labor).
(4) We have 940T wagon. It's engine was siezed at 55K mile in the middle of night on turnpike. Engine was rebuilt and it happened again. I guess I should not trust Volvo now.
Thank you for suggestion.

You might want to contact the Volvo regional office and see if they might help with your transmission due to the low mileage on it. The worst they can do is say no.
You say your 940s engine locked up at 55k miles. Why? Was it due to a direct fault of the car?
