740 Exhaust Vibration[ALL/1998] posted by John E. on

To the experts:
I have a '86 740 wagon, 175K miles. At or around idle (750-1000 rpm) I have the most irritating vibration and rattling from the exhaust system. Above 1000 rpm it becomes undetectable. By applying a side load (my foot) on the section between the catalytic converter and exhaust manifold I'm able to make the rattling disappear. One additional point, it looks like all attach points are secure. Any advice is appreciated.
