1976 b21e bad idle (for a short while)[ALL/1998] posted by Owen Woodland on

I have a similar problem to the one described in a previous message (ie bad idle, perhaps caused by missing on one or more cylinders), can't seem to pin down the cause of it. When you start the car, most noticably when the day is warm-hot and the car has not been in use for a while (but also on cool days), it will idle SHOCKINGLY for a few seconds, until I give it some gas (in which case it sounds like an accelerating tractor, and shakes the car BAD) or wait for it to smooth itself out and go back to regular idle.
Idles about 1000-1100 revs when COLD, 900rpm when warm.
It seems to get nasty pressure buildup on hot days in the fuel tank (coincidental?)
Ummm... I haven't actually checked under the distributor cap, being fairly naive I prefer to stay out of such things....
Any ideas?
Please....

Hi Owen
Try repalcing the impulse relay.
Or check the constant idle unit. And if any contacts is lose or worn.
Drive safely
