FYI on '89 740 Wagon break noise[ALL/1998] posted by Jim Ray on

Couple of months ago I posted a question on a "jingle/jangle" sound comming from my front wheels.

Very agrivating sound. Made my Volvo sound like a rattletrap (my wife's comment), bad timming since I want to trade up to a new one and she starts looking at the old 740 with an evil eye wondering what the new one will be like.

Got lots of suggestions from you guys, printed some of them out and headed to my dealership.

They checked things over several times - My favorite mechanic at this dealer told me that other 740's have come in lately with the same symptom.

This mechanic was persistant and found the problem. Turns out the "S" shaped spring on the brake pads are snaping, I'm now on my second set of "free" break pads from Volvo.

I found out just recently that this was the problem with all the 740's that had the symptom.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions, the dealership was impressed with the comments I received on this forem - So am I......

All the rest of the 740's with the same problem at this dealership thank you guys as well.
