Accelerating from stopped, there's a delayed "catch" or extra bump. Also, the shift lever vibrates at certain speeds. Have 4 speed without extra overdrive switch. Tx.

The slip yoke (middle connection of drive shaft where the two pieces can move in and out) may need to be greased. The clunk can also be a faulty rubber bushing in rear suspension. At what speed are you experiencing the vibrations?

When you remove drivehaft for inspection, check the u-joints for any binding as you work them around. The center slip spline being dry of grease could cause both symptoms, but a faulty u-joint could be a part of it. It is critical that the drive shaft be reassembled "in phase" if it separated. Find the two arrows on the adjacent parts of the driveshaft where the slip spline male moves into the slip spline female and reassemble in the same relation ship, i.e. pointed at each other.

You have the ZF22 - 4 speed with OD. This is a bad transmission as delivered, however after it is once fixed it is ok. I have documentation that has been used to get a Volvo replacement at no or little charge. The transmission failed at 30,000 miles to 60,000 miles. Failures often occured during emission testing when they do the fast idle. You drive in and don't drive out. Texas has exempted this model from some of the emission tests.

The ZF4 HP22 does not come with an overdrive. It has a lock-up torque converter.
