I know this is off topic, but here goes: I get a ton of spam, much more than 6 months ago. Does it somehow come to all on this list also? Believe me I'm not blaming the Brickboard, I'm just trying to get to the bottom of the problem. SPAM is something that I want to eliminate. Sorry.

Paul,
I really doubt that you are gettign spammed from your activities here. This is why: spammers have scripts that forage the usenet for addresses and make a database from everything that is found with blahblah@blah.com. The @ is the key. This is easy to do to the usenet because all of the data can be sifted through. But here your info is stored on several thousand files on my directory system which can only be accessed one at a time via the web server through your browser. This is no good for those who want e-mail addresses. Another way that you are targeted: legitimate domain names are found and a dictionary of names and words is applied to anyname@legitdomain.com. Also, lame jerks who know there way around your ISP can sell names.
More than anything though, if you use the usenet you will be targeted.
What you can do:
Find a way to get rich headers in your mail client. When you gather this extra info that is present in all transactions (but hidden), mail it to support@spammersdomain.com and cc: to abuse@spammersdomain.com. Also write to support@yourisp.com and ask about spam filtering techniques. My ISP has a spam filtering server that I can use. I forward all messages through the filters before they get to me with a simple .forward file. You can also get client-side filters.
Turning spammers in to their service providers can really kick some ass. It works. ISPs are very wary of being known as spam havens.
Good luck.
