'87 and '89 odometer failures[ALL/1998] posted by Tom Wilson on
Saturday, 18 October 1997, at 6:58 a.m.

The speedometers in my two 240's work fine, but the odometers are broken.

The '87's does not register on the trip odometer nor the main odometer, but resets to zero on the trip odometer. It stopped around 200K.

The '89's main odometer works fine, but the trip odometer doesn't change. The reset buton is detached and when inserted, is unable to push into the odometer; apparently jammed.

Any suggestion for this VolvoNewbie? Tom Wilson

I had the same problem with an '87 244. It was the little gear in side the speedometer. It just turned in to a soft gum like stuff. Replace the speedo' or get it repaired. Most speedo' shops will not sell just the gear. Some crap about a federal law agianst tampering with the speedometer. Good luck
