PV 544 Master Cylinder[ALL/1998] posted by Steve LeFevver on

I need a new master cylinder for my 544 but can't find one. Are they still available anywhere? I am considering adapting one from a VW bug. This would require making a new mounting bracket. Is this a good idea, or is there a better solution?

If there's a brake parts jobber or shop in your area they should be able to get it. Look in the yellow pages. I got new seals for one I had a few years ago and they weren't hard to find at all. I think the masters were made by Wagner, which is a company that's still around. ---Brian

Have your hydraulic cylinders sleeved with stainless steel when replacements aren't available. Here's the guy:
Imperial Machine Inc. ph# 402.488.9450

This guy's into old Chrysler/Imperial parts also. Had the clutch master cylinder from my '67 BMW 1600GT done here. He just sleeves cylinders; you have to find the kit for rebuild. $60.00 plus freight. Cheeper than a rebuild when there are no rebuilds around and think of the time it'll take to retrofit a different one.
