740 sunroof adjustment[ALL/1998] posted by Scott Massey on

Recently we replaced the sunroof seal on our 89 745T. Now the seal causes the back edge to get hung up when going from the "tilt up" postion back to closed. We must get out of the car and push the roof down by hand, slide it back, and then move it back to the closed position to get it to close properly.

The motor has been removed several times, so I think that the closed position is not "centered" properly. What is the procedure for adjusting this thing so it will work properly?

Thanks in advance
Scott

Hej Scott
You can move the cables of the sunroof by removing the motor. The thing to use is a flat screw driver but be careful not to damage the cable.
Before you actually begin what you have to do is move the liner panel back.
to do this move the sunroof door to the tilt position. Then carefully reach in and get a finger on the back of the liner panel that moves with the sunroof door
(SRD) from outside the car. There are sping loaded attachments at the sides.
Unhook them go back inside the car and with the sunroof in the halfway lowered position pull back carefully on the srd liner. It might be a bit stiff.
Slide the panel back into the roof.It should fit without to much push.
If not then move the srd backwards or forwards until it does.
Now you should b able to see the screws and stuff that you might need to adjust.Put the door back into the closed position and make sure the regulators are in the correct position. You should be able to see small marks to indicate this at the bottom of the small channels that controle the movement of the regulators.
Once you have equallized the cable movement then try to move the door such that it fits in the hole.It takes a while to get the hang of the adjustments but it can be done.
There is another seal that can be fitted to the sunroof assembly.it fits at the back and prevents water from getting into the wrong places when your on the brakes.
Have fun,be prepped to take sometime out of your day.
