164 / 240 Steering Wheels[ALL/1998] posted by Jack Austin on

I really like to drive Emily's 164, but I do find that the steering wheel is awfully close to my lap. It's odd that I don't remember that being a problem back in the '70's but I suppose that I could be just a tad thicker now than I was then. Anyway, before I go out and pull the smaller diameter steering wheel off of Kathleen's 240 just to see if it will fit on to the 164 shaft, does anyone know for sure if it will or will not fit? I suspect that the base ring of the wheel might not match well with the plastic column shroud but I can get over that if the wheel will actually fit onto the tapered splines. If it absolutely won't fit does anyone know of another smaller diameter wheel that will? By the way, keep those cards and letters coming in response to my posting of the poor running 240. What you have offered so far is quite interesting, and just as soon as I digest enough of that free range turkey that Kathleen dished up today I'll waddle out to the driveway and see what I can do with the suggestions.
Happy Turkey Day! and remember Lyndon Johnson, a great american (Lazlo Toth)

I have a `71 142E that I`ve changed from the 140 steering wheel to the 240 wheel. I don`t imagine that the 160 is any different from the 140. volvo has an adaptor kit so check your area dealer or maybe contact IPD to see if they have anything available. sorry I can`t give you a volvo part number
