Speedo cable needs replacement. Can I access the rear of the meter without removing anything? Any tips or advice greatly appreciated.
--thanks.

Jess:
You seem certain that you must replace this cable. Usually problems with speedo/tripmeter stuff is in the instument cluster. Make sure it's not the cluster before you try to replace the cable. I've never done it but it seems more involved than working on the cluster components.
To answer your question, yes you can access the rear, and unlink the speedo cable quite easily. Just reach in the back of the cluster and locate the stiff cable that is the speedo. Push in and turn the link clockwise. It'll pop out. However, you might get crappy access to the firewall if you don't remove the cluster. Once the speedo cable is remove, it's very easy to remove the instrument cluster on DL's (assume it's the same for GL's).

If the speedo cable has never been removed before it cant be removed by just a twist. You are going to first have to break the plastic retainer that locks the the cable to the instrument cluster. It is not needed and when reconnecting cable just twist it back on.
