Thanks in advance, I just bought an 83 GL with a couple of challenges:
Speedo not working (records indicate this is in fact a new developement).
Vibration and noise from (it seems) the mid to rear of car upon brisk accelleration/kickdown (transmission mount?).
97,000 miles, is it time for a timing belt? How do I check?
Any benefit to a factory muffler $90.00 versus aftermarket (marmont) $39.00.
Should I replace the differential fluid (it is dirty)?

Check w/ previous owner about timing belt; if no then, yes.
Try the Walker "Advantage" muffler Lifetime warranty w/ no problems in exchange of warranty... a little more than a cheap muffler, but I went thu 2 on a buick.
And, yes, change the Diff lube.
Oh, Check the U-joints and center carrier Brg on the drive shaft,also trans mounts & engine mounts, bell housing bolts.
For the speedo, you've probably have a cable, Disconnect from the trans and try a drill on the cable. Check for broken cable or bummer speedo
