240 -- brake fluid change?[ALL/1998] posted by Steve Baxley on

Greetings;

I would greatly appreciate some advice. I reciently bought a 1990 240 wagon. It appears to be in very good shape and I am prepairing to perform the 120k service. The book I bought (Bentley) suggests changing the brake fluid every 2 yrs. I have no idea if this has been done before, so I thought I should do so. Problem is, I can find no instruction on how to perform this. I appreciate any advice you can offer. Thank you.

Steve,

You said you have the Volvo 240 Service Manual by Robert Bentley. Look on page 500-3 of this manual. Complete instructions are provided for brake bleeding and brake fluid changing.

Good luck. I do this every two years on my three Volvo sedans.

hi,
in relation to brake fluid change, i always use motor cycle dot-5 rated fluid as it will handle much higher temperatures under pressure. also it is not hydroscopic, which normal fluid is, (not trying to be funny,just means it does'nt attract water), and will allow you to go for longer intervals before being changed.
hope that may be of some use.
