1982 740 GLE - floods out - too much gas[ALL/1998] posted by Elby Taylor on

I have a 1982 740 GLE B230F engine (LH-Jetronic, normally aspirated) that will only start and run for a few seconds. Spark plugs will be wet with fuel, so it is flooding out. I checked some of the fuel system parts, using a Haynes manual for reference, but did not find the problem. What do I check and how.

Check the vacuum to the fuel return solenoid.

The fuel injection temperature sensor can fail and give this exact symptom. Its located under the #3 intake runner screwed into the cylinder head. There should be a resistance specification for this in the Haynes manual.
