850 Roof rack options.[ALL/1998] posted by Peter on

I've read some of the previous posts re. load bars vs. Euro rails but am still not sure of best solution for me. In Canada, the addition of the Euro rails would mean an extra $600 over just load bars. Is the $600 worth spending cosidering we plan to use a Thule box & bike carriers? Can I definitely expect to have problems with just the load bars?

You have a wagon, right? Assuming you do - that price difference seems _very_ high. My eurorails cost only $200 or so 2 years ago, bought direct from Nils Sefeldt Volvo in TX, 800 468-0041, although several other dealers also sell accessories by mail at a discount. That's all you need to buy from Volvo. The load bars that mount on the roof rails are available at retail (and I'm sure they cost less than the load bars from Volvo), as are bike carriers, locksets, etc.
The Eurorails install on the 850 in an hour or so. The only tools you'll need are a tork screwdriver set and a sharp cutting tool.
