240 Turbo Wheels fit to a 122[ALL/1998] posted by Brian T. on

Has anyone out there put the 5-spoke 240 Turbo wheels on a 122? I know the bolt pattern is different and I may need to get a machinist to drill them out a little. Are there any other problems, i.e. width problems in the wheel wells, etc.? ---Brian T.

Brian, Ask the guys at IPD. they would know, but I think the offset and clearance are vastly different and from personal experience the 5 spoke wheels are really soft when it comes to potholes, etc. (I'm a NY City daily driver in all of my Volvos and I've been thru 3 sets in 12 years). I have a set of 4 turbo wheel right behind me waiting for me to get off my butt and put rubber on 'em.

The only good thing is they look great and are easier to clean than the 25 spoke Volvo wheels.

The later Trubo wheel won't fit your 122. The bolt pattern was changed sarting with the '70 1800E and 140 series. The solution many have followed is to retrofit the rear axle and front spindles from a '70 up 1800E on the 122. For the rear axle it is a matter of pulling out the old one and bolting on the later one. No welding or modification necessary. This allows you to use just about any wheels designed for the 1800E, 140, 240, 740 series AND you get rear disc brakes in bonus ! You see why it was done before ... Concerning the front spindle, it is also a bolt on affair since I believe the ball joits are the same. You get the later bolt pattern and dual circuit disc brakes in bonus.

E-mail me privately for more details. I also have some of those parts for sale.
