re: auto trans...wont shift into gear..think cause its low on ATF,,but what kind do i use?? the book says type G..Chiltons says it depends on the type of trans..could be G, F, or Dextrin..any help would be appreciated..

Type g fluid is the same as type f here in the U.S. To be sure that that is the right fluid for your car look under the transmission to see if it has a drain plug with "D-II" on it. If it has such a plug then the gearbox has been replaced with an exchange unit which requires the use of Dexron IIE or Dexron III fluid. By the way, if you don,t find a drain plug on your gearbox then it is the original 1983 unit as they weren't equipped with drain plugs (on these you loosen the filler pipe at pan to allow drainage).
