'84 245DL ATF recommendations, capacity[ALL/1998] posted by James R. Sassman on

Am planning on draining my auto trans. Sunday. Have the new screen, pan gasket. What is the recommended type of ATF? I was told my Redline that it is Dexron II Mercuron. Is that right or should I use type F? Also, how much should I add? I saw a post on another board which suggestged taking the line which runs to the radiator loose, starting the engine and pouring trans. fluid in until it runs clear. Is this a serious suggestion or not? I am a complete novice at doing this. However, my son, who is very mechanically inclined and has done this to several American autos, will be doing the work. Any help from fellow Bricksters will be appreciated!

It's Dexron IID/Mercon.
