Cup Holder for 700 series[ALL/1998] posted by Michael McBroom on

Okay, I give up. What do 700-series Volvo owners use for a cup-holder? Especially those who own manual-shift cars? If you've found a good aftermarket product besides one of those awful stick-down-the-window-channel types of holders, I sure would be interested.
My wife's Buick came with a little cup-holder that rotates into an external position from the inside of the center console, allowing the console to be closed after the cup-holder's "deployment." Handy. I haven't found an aftermarket equivalent to this, although I sure would like to.

I installed the Volvo accessory cup holders on my 960. I wouldn't be surprised if it fit the 700 series too. It basically replaces the center console compartment lid with one that provide two front and two rear holders, sliding out from either end. The elevated (thicker) lid also serves as a comforable arm rest. The are pretty well made, but basically a plastic tray with flip down metal "gimbel-type" pieces that the cup rest upon. Not cheap, of course. I think I paid around $100 for mine.

Mike, The best armrest/cupholder I've used is made by Husco and it's called the Track Top. It fits over the center console and slides fore and aft to allow access to seatbelts and brake lever. It alo allows you to rest your right arm on long trips. See the link below.

Thanks for the tip on the Husco cup holder. The TracTop link you left doesn't appear to be working. Netscape's giving me a "can't find" error message for spav.com. The URL you listed was:
http://spav.com/wilton/husco/
Is this correct?

I took a look at the TracTop cup holders pictured on the Web,. They seem pretty much identical to the OE accessory that I purchased. No price was given. Precisely matching the color might be a problem.

Shatz, I've had several OEM Volvo type armrests, ranging from the single support that came out of side of drivers seat to flip up type with 2 supports that mounted to trans tunnel. I think the Trac Top has an extruded aluminum frame that attaches to trans tunnel/console and the arm rest slides for aand aft to clear brake lever and seatbelt buckle points.
They do give ya a free coffee mug though...
