'76 Volvo Emergency Brake Sticks[ALL/1998] posted by James R. Sassman on

If I attempt to back up after applying the emergency brake, the car will only back up a few feet and suddenly stop. I'm wondering if this is a stuck brake or cable that needs lubrication. Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks!

I should have explained this better the first time. Here's what I =meant= to say: When I disengage the parking brake after the car has been sitting--over night, or parked--the car will only back up a few feet and abruptly stop. It doesn't seem to matter how long the 245 has been sitting. Also, when this problem first occurred, I would disengage the brake, and after going a few 1000 ft, I would hear a loud clunking sound as if something was breaking free. Could this be a sticky parking brake--like a shoe, or the cable is not disengaging? Any help with this question would be appreciated! Thanks!
