manifold pressure sensor on '72 145[ALL/1998] posted by dave deford on

The diaphragm in my manifold pressure sensor has a hole in it. Is there anything that can be done about it short of laying out $225 at the dealer for a whole new unit?
The car isn't really worth that much after 25 years of serious beating...

Dave, You could get one from the junk yards, or refurbished. Also, if you have an adverturous side, the d-jetronic (it is d-jet, right) was on many other cars. My '72 142 came with a VW sensor that, according to the original owner (who was a mechanic), made it run with the most pep. You may have trouble narrowing it down to your model, but you could adjust just about any sensor to work with your car (easier said than done, of course).
The truth is, I have needed this same part for a while, but have been able to find few sources. However, I found a remanufactured one for around $150 or so (somewhere in california). I ended up going with a JY item for $25, but it's not the right model.
Go to my Parts, SOurce etc. page, print it and go down the list calling around for the part. Since I am 140 oriented, my list is biased in your favor. Most of the numbers are toll free, but some of the best JYs are not. (please e-mail me if you find new places, or if I need to update anything).
I will post again on this subject soon. Good luck, Jarrod
