My first Volvo, a 1984 240 dl, shocks me every time I step out of the car. I’ve owned the car for three years and it has done it from day one. My mechanic(s) aren’t able to fix it.
It usually happens as I touch the door to close it, after driving for a while then stepping out of the car. The engine can be left on and it still zaps me. It zaps me and my wife as we touch any metal part of the car while getting out of either the driver’s side or passenger’s side door.
The shock is like scuffing your feet on shaggy carpet for a few minutes then touching someone’s skin. Sometimes it actually hurts! Does anybody have any clues?

Bear, Sounds like a chassis ground. Check master ground strap for clanliness, unbolt it and wire brush both firewall and cable end. Check master ground at Fuse box, and check each major grounding point as per Volvo group 39 manual (it shows all major grounding points for all wiring bundles and accessories).
