Torq converter trouble[ALL/1998] posted by Dan Conley on

I have a 87' 760 turbo. The head and block just rebuild. When installing the engine it would not attach to the trans the torq converter was sticking out about 1/4" past trans case.I spun the torq/c to try and move it in, it spins and then slips in and locks. If you try to spin it it pops back out - 1/2 turn or so slips back in. The engine would only fit with the torq all the way in and locked. With the engine bolted on and fly/drive plate bolted if you spin the engine by the crank there is a clanking sound coming from around the torq area. As you spin the engine it gets harder to spin and then a clunk. Happens about every complete turn of the torq. It seems that as the engine turns the torq is popping forward causing pressure and then slipping back in. Ive done everything I know with no luck, I dont know if this is normal and when the engine starts all will be well.I just dont want to completly install all parts and have to take them all apart. If anyone has an answer or solution please let me know. Thnaks Dan
