Looking for advice on wiring harness problem with 83 244GLT. Symptoms:

Intermittent simultaneous lighting of all dash idiot lights except oil pressure. Sometimes lights will go off, but lately the Lamda Sond light will stay on. When lights go on, voltmeter indication drops from high in normal range to low in normal range. I suspect its indicating alternator output in normal condition, and battery voltage in failure condition, which is telling me alternator output is going away when the problem occurs. Problem developed shortly after my son changed oil and filter, so I suspect wiring in area of alternator may have been disturbed.

Anyone ever suffer similar problem? Source for a schematic to aid in troubleshooting? Source for wiring harness?

Chris, Sounds like somebody messed with Alternator wiring in area of Oil filter. If you're feeling like Indiana Jones grab a socket set and pull the belly pan. Get a flashlight and check wiring that passes below/behind the pulley assembly, starting from Alt. Oil pressure guage and working back to left side of engine. The heat from exhaust mainfold and oil from filter area and coolant from Lower hose connection leaks has a tendency to turn the insulation into something that resembles chalk, and has the same protective qualities. I had a similar occurance brought on by Sub zero temps and road salt/slush infestation. Cost me an alternator and all wiring clear over to left side of block. If you have the patience cut back the wire casing until you get to left side of block, examine all the wiring and replace anything that is brittle or worn. Solder new to old and cover with heat shrink tubing, then wrap all wiring in good HD tape or sleeving. The other alternative is to replace and reroute across the front below the radiator and then back to enging from area near engine computer/AC Drier. Then it don't get toasted no more! For new wiring (NON VOLVO) try this link.

Have fun, Stoney
