So last week I finally picked up my first Volvo. 1991 740 Wagon. It has 119,000 miles and you would think that it was brand new. It is in such great shape that I don't want my rather large dog, who goes everywhere with me, to mess it up. I purchased a cargo barrier to isolate him in the rear of the wagon. The installation went well except I stopped at the part where I guess I should be installing the retaining clips on the inside of the roof. I didn't mind taking a couple of stabs at the clip placement on the back of the rear seats because an error would be hidden by the carpeting on the back of the seat. I don't think that the headliner would be as forgiving. What is on the other side of the headliner. Where should I drill my holes? Also, is there a company that manufactures those big rubber floor protectors other than Volvo? Thanks

Monj, Check out Cabela's the outdoors mail order co. They carry a lot of those type of things. I know that there is also an ad usually in the back of Car & Driver for a HD rubber floor mat, kinda like a giant version of the floor mats. There are probably holes already drilled under the headliner. Were the mounting screws the self tapping type or a a fine threaded bolt? If it's a screw that leads me to believe that a hole needs to be drilled and bolt means that olvo put a nice threaded hole for you to use. What do the instructions say? and is it a Volvo product? If it ain't don't count on anything. Just make sure that there isn't an electric wire behind the metal in the roof beam before you start drilling and go easy, holes in the roof are hard to hide.
