For those who love the 544, I have to spread word about a sequence in Ingmar Bergman's ' Persona'. The camera lovingly traces all the features of an off-the-line 544 as some crazy women is stalking another woman with whom she has become obsessed. A gre at movie. For those in minneapolis, this film is playing tomorrow night at the Oak Street Cinema.

Another of Bergman's films "Winter Light, or maybe "the Silence", shows a 544 in use by police and also an amazon in a scene at the church. this film is about the minister who doubts God, with Ingrid Thulin and Gunnar Bjornson. HJ

Has anyone noticed that when a Volvo(old or otherwise) turns up in an American film, it is almost always smucked at some point in the film. One recent case in point is "The Frighteners" in which a truely beat-up multicolored 544 is rolled after much abuse. A much newer Volvo 240 is also dispatched.

Schwig, They are cheap, durable, take a hell of a beating and allow the stunt people to walk away with no more than the usual number of injuries. Most movie stunt cars are stripped out junkers, with a lot of roll cage tubing welded in for strength. With a 240 you already have the roll cage, and the chance of the car surviving to be used again is better than average. That's why you used to see a lot of GM Chevy Caprice series bodys being used for stunt cars. Cheap, durable, easy to fix and built to take a beating. I just wish they'd leave a few 544's for the rest of us... Stoney

Yeah, you're right. That's 'Winter Light' with the lusty priest.

Is it the coroner's vehicle? Can't remember.

By the way, did anyone see that c70 commercial where there is either a 544 or 444 on the side of the road when the new model goes whizzing by? Why is this vintage Volvo not a 1800?

Makes no sense to me.

jarrod, It's cause they guys who think this merde up are ad guys, not volvo owners/lovers. If we did the commercials there would be less eurotrustfundbabies and more reality. But then again would it sell cars? Stoney
