: For any of my previous vehicles, I have always depended on the Chilton manual to assist me in : attempting any repair or maintenance. Is the Chilton manual the suggested book for a novice like : myself. I don't think that I would ever get into the re ally involved stuff, but I have always enjoyed : doing my own tune ups. I have a 91 740 wagon. Thank you.

Monj, I agree with Weber in using the Bently, hanes and Volvo Problem Solver then the Volvo green/white system guides. The Chilton Volvo book is not at all like the Detroit series or the Mechnics series. The Gothenberg Bible, with apologies, is not my cup of tea. The Clymer/Hanes/Bentley series is top notch and would be the best investment. Stoney

b. nobe, Sorry the Clymer mention is 25 years out of date. That was the name on both the Citroen and Puegot manuals my Step-Dad had for our corral of strange beasts back in my childhood. Imagine having a Citroen,a Puegot, a Saab 96, an Opel, a Renault Dauphine, and a Mini in the same household ! And not a qualified mechanic for 100 miles! Of course as a teenager I had to have an MG and then a Jag MKVII. Stoney

I don't think you can get it at a bookstore. It comes in a 3-ring binder...doesn't look like a "real" book. Mine is at work so I don't have the address handy. I bought it from IPD (www.ipdusa.com). It's great for trouble-shooting problems (es pecially FI and electrical stuff), although it costs $70.
