Monj, Basicly all 10W40 non synthetic motor oils are the same. Brand loyalty is the only differance. I've used 'em all and found no real differance. In regards to synthetic oils you might want to read the Oil FAQ file on the Swedish Bricks page an make your own decision. In regards to oil filters the only ones that I allow on my Volvo are Mann/IPD or Volvo OEM. The Mann filters are better because they are bigger and provide more filter space. Volvo reduced the size of their OEM filters several years ag o and even though they say they are the same I don't agree. Most aftermarket filters are Semi-OK at best. I've cut open WIX and Leeunits and found them to have much less filter material than Mann or Volvo. The only thing I refuse to recommend is any of th e Oil Additives using PTFE Teflon. It has only been proven on late nite TV but not in real world. I have met owners of many diffeent types of cars that have had major trouble due th the use of PTFE additives, including clogged oil passages and the like. R emember this stuff is not like Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec, they are OK but PTFE is not. Your oli change interval is fine and remember to swap the copper washer every 2 oil changes! Hope you survived the Nor'easter this week. Stoney

When I asked for Synthetic to be put in my 850 Turbo, my Volvo dealer uses Quaker State Synquest 5W-50. I feel they use this weight because it is the only weight from quaker state, which they use for all their oil needs, which comes in the 55 gal drum. Am I doing any harm to my engine by using this wide a range, even though it is a synthetic, and its VI Index numbers arever high (170 )? I sure would feel better if the Volvo dealer would stick to what Volvo recommends in terms of weight!
