: I have this chuckling noise on the steering column of my : 1989 Volvo 740 turbo station wagon. The weird thing is that : it seems to happen in cold weather. When the weather is warm : it doesn't make noise. It's a kind of noise like a slipping : gear or something when you turn to one direction or the other. : Any advice would be appreciated. Dear Dennis I work at A importer and exporter for European parts where I am a part technician for the Volvo car line, it has been my past experience that the cau se of said noise is most likley to be the steering colum joint, or possibly a stiff steering rack you may want to have these checked by an experienced mechanic.
