AC Compressor does not turn on[ALL/1998] posted by ROBERT CURTIS on

I checked the fuse on my 84 turbo and it seems fine. I plan to have the system serviced but would like to solve this electrical problem first. The compressor does turn freely but does not engauge. Could this be a relay problem? I bought the car in november of last year and am hoping to get it into shape. Dispite some of the problems I have had such as the stalling I am pleased that I was able to fix it with the help other bricksters

thanx a lot!!

Robert, If the R12 level is very low the compressor will not come on. With the engine running and ac switched on, connect the 2 wires on the reciever / drier together momentarily. If the compressor comes on you are low on refrigerent or the pressure switch is bad. If you have no power going to the low pressure switch, it could be a number of possible causes. A wiring diagram would be a great asset in this case. Robert
