Thudding Noise[ALL/1998] posted by David Riese on

We have a 1997 850GTA wagon, with leather interior. The strange problem is that we can't open the rear windows when the car is movinig over 25 m miles per hour. When one or both of the rear windows is open w we get a powerful thumping/thudding sort of wind noise that p ulses through the car. It is the similar to the sensation you get if you stand right in front of a set of huge bass speakers at a rock concert. Does anyone have similar problems or suggestions of what the cure might be ?

I experienced a similar problem in a 89 740 wagon. the only fix I could come up with was to slightly crack the sunroof or one of the front windows. This releived the air pressure just enough to stop the anoying thumping. Unfortunately at higher speds the cabin gets quite loud with the front windows cracked. It's easier on the ears if you try the sunroof first.
