Matt: Please excuse the typo's. "Mi" instead of "Hi" & "wire" in place of "wife". My wife did not find it a bit comical. Just got sentenced to a wrist band to stave off open arm surgery for Carpel Tunnel. It does things' to one's typing.
Without insulting you, and/or your abilities, I wanted to share w/you some experiences re/engine-tranny swap for your 262. With no prior knowledge re:your network of motorhead pals, shop/tooling availability, $$$ resources, etc. I'll be brief.
Direct E-mail to you would be more appropriate so as not to use up Brickboard space and make Jarrod angry. Probably, there's no one else out there real interested in this stuff.
While it is a major task to re-do a power train, it is not rocket science. Nor should it be emotionally taxing. Typically, it's "hood off", grille, basket's, radiator etc., out & stands in all 4 corners-immediately. You'll need a torch and an adequate stick welder. If you are not talented in this area, find a friend or ask around the racing car community. Should be no problem because a fellowship exists among car folks. There's always someone kind.
Accessory controls are easy. Cables & throttle ball joints come in all sizes & configs. Shift lever connections are re-engineered from the ground up. It's simply easier. I even screen/fabricate new shift indicator plates. 'Piece of cake here in the shop.
Rear eng/tranny cross members usually require simple, but difinite modification. Make one out of two type of thing. Drive line mods are easy. Determine the yoke indexes & length under "wheels down" load. Chalk your lines and send it to Drivelines North West in Tacoma. It's fast & cheap. And...perfect.
If your seriously iterested in open hood surgery on your 262, feel free to ask questions. I encourage you to get more power. You'll really like it. My 262 buries the speedo on top in about 15 seconds. I don't know how fast we go. Most 'Vettes lose their smile after imature actions on my part. Suggest you Email direct. <interpac@silverlink.net> Good Luck, Jim
