760 auto trans upshift[ALL/1998] posted by Michael McBroom on

I read recently on another list, or maybe it was alt.autos.volvo, where it was stated that the 1 > 2 upshift on an automatic transmission should be quick, if not abrupt, because it actually reduced wear on the transmission's internals. I just bought an '88 765T, and noticed today that, if I put my foot into it, the 1 > 2 upshift is characterized by about a 1/2 second of higher engine revs before 2nd engages. The 2 > 3 shift is quick, without this pause, under full, or almost full-throttle accelleration. If I drive the car at low to moderate levels of accelleration, however, the 1 > 2 upshift is as quick and solid as the 2 > 3 upshift.

What would be the likely cause of this? Is this type of thing normal on an '88 765T with automatic transmission? Is adjustment possible?
